Join us at Lancashire’s specialist Conservation Studios in Preston, on Tuesday 7th March 2023 from 10am – 1pm, with conservators Jenny Truran and Mike Bowles for a hands on introduction to object handling and moving. By the end of the session, you will be able to confidently and safely assess, handle and pack a wide range of museum objects from photographs to ceramics, textiles to paintings. You’ll also know how to safely pack, unpack and hang a painting. The training is limited to a small group of 12 participants.
You will go away with practical knowledge and experience that you can put into practice straight away, and examples of risk assessments and method statements for future reference. All materials and equipment will be provided.
The half-day course is aimed at volunteers and professionals new to the sector, as well as anyone who needs a refresher. It is open to NWFed individual members and staff from NWFed member museums only. Find out how to join NWFed from just £12 a year here.
Lancashire Conservation Studios offers a comprehensive range of services for the care and interpretation of cultural heritage with specialists on site in conservation, curation, collection management and design. The studios offer specialist support in the care of easel paintings, sculpture, natural history, decorative arts and objects.
The Studios are located in central Preston, a 25 minute walk from Preston Railway Station and a 10 minute walk from Preston Bus Station. It is also easily accessible by car with free parking on site. Full travel information will be provided for all delegates.
Access information: The Conservation Studios are fully accessible with a lift to the upper level, accessible toilets on both floors, and a hearing loop in meeting rooms. Tickets are subsidised by NWFed and cost £15 per person. Places are limited to 12, so early booking is recommended.
