7-9 November 2023, Newcastle-Gateshead and online
It’s your last chance to book tickets for the Museums Association’s hybrid annual Conference 2023, which will be held at The Glasshouse (formerly the Sage Gateshead) on 7-9 November 2023. It’s also available online for remote attendees.
What to expect from Museums Association Conference 2023
Museum collections, buildings and people have the power to inspire, engage and enrich the communities that they serve. But with museums facing multiple financial, ethical and practical challenges, we need a new vision for the sector that will enable us to make the most of these opportunities. Attendees will discuss:
- Themes around economic regeneration and tackling the cost of living crisis
- How we can help communities flourish
- Our role in health and wellbeing
- Impact of discrimination
There will be a variety of session formats – workshops, panels, plenaries, in practice – along with three social evening events.
By attending the conference in Newcastle-Gateshead, you will get three days of interactive and topical content, inspirational speakers, networking opportunities, social events, physical tours and practice sessions.
If you can’t attend in person, joining online for some or all of the event gives you the opportunity to access great content at your own convenience.
Programme highlights: exploring anti-ableism
Anti-ableism will be a major theme at this year’s Conference 2023. The event will feature a range of sessions tackling access, inclusion and equity. Sessions include Disability Representation and Rights, a chance to hear about The Sensational Museum and find out about the learning from Nothing About Us Without Us at the People’s History Museum.
As well as anti-ableism sessions, the conference will cover a wide range of topics, including disposal; civic museums; anti-racism; funding; co-curation; volunteering; learning and engagement; decolonisation; climate justice; and lots more.
The social events give you the opportunity to carry on networking with fellow delegates at some of Newcastle-Gateshead’s cultural venues.
The third day of conference is a chance to visit a range of museums and galleries in Newcastle-Gateshead. There is a programme of special events, exhibition tours, expert talks and behind-the-scenes visits to museums, galleries and cultural venues in the area, all included in the price.
Prices start from £45. For more information, view the full programme and to book your place visit www.museumsassociation.org/events/conference-2023/.
